REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) is a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council (EC) No. 1907/2006 regarding the safe use of chemicals, through registration and evaluation of the same.
REACH aims to ensure a high level of protection of health and the environment, including the promotion of alternative methods for assessing the risks posed by substances, as well as the free circulation of substances on the internal market, while supporting competitiveness and innovation.
The Regulation is based on the principle that it is for manufacturers, importers and downstream users to ensure that substances they produce, place on the market or use do not adversely affect human health or the environment. The provisions of the regulation are based on the precautionary principle.
